When Yang was 13, her father was sent to prison, and The Children’s took her in and gave her an opportunity to get an education. The children who live at The Children's Village are the sons and daughters of hardened criminals but Yang has never felt welcome there. Her hopes were to one day leave this place. Before reaching her 18th birthday, Yang runs away from The Children's Village. Then just after celebrating her 18th birthday, she suddenly vanished without telling anyone of her plans. Having interviewed Yang regularly over a period of 18 months, director Hu Liubin took his camera on a journey to find her, and find out more about her. He traced any thread that might lead him to her. Little by little through this process he was able to understand Yang’s choices.

This documentary by Beijing Film Academy graduate Hu Liubin marks a new generation of Chinese documentary filmmakers, ones who have a keen sense of storytelling and editing. A highly engaging film that gives precious insight into the troubled yet sharp mind of a girl on the verge of stepping out of one alienating world and into another.
