Set in contemporary Beijing, Beijing or Bust showcases the voyages of six
Chinese Americans through firsthand accounts of their triumphs, setbacks, and ambivalences toward the country of their ancestors.

The film introduces viewers toKaiser, a writer and founding member of Tang Dynasty, one of the most influential rock bands in China; Mimi and Ada, one a photographer, the other a filmmaker, both survivors of their 1990s battles against censorship; Jeff, one of the few foreign employees at the largest Chinese PC manufacturer where communist culture is still alive and well; Rania, a media artist still troubled by daily cultural differences; and Bob, an entrepreneur successfully seizing the day in Chinas booming economy.

Having grown up in the US but still considered Chinese by many, all of them must grapple with the complexities of living between two cultures. Each has their individual perspective on China and its tumultuous changes, and comes to terms with their heritage in their own way.

Beijing or Bust traces the personal and geographic journeys of these six cultural-surfers over a 20-year span against the canvas of the most rapid transformations Chinas capital has ever known.
