A neighbouring elderly psychiatrist, who feels dubious about him, gives him counseling. What actually happened to Meizi!? Based on the Japanese psycho-thriller fiction of same name, Suffocation offers a did-he-kill-her? plot, a meditative pace and compelling cinematography and music to effectively capture the darkness lurking in the human mind.
This is the debut feature film of sixth generation director Zhang Bingjian, who has worked on various art forms mainly in the west.
