Guest: Bengali theater professor & critic Shafi Ahmed
2 documentaries, 1 short, 1 feature + Bengali food & music to experience a savoury nights journey through Bangladesh
For the first time ever in Beijing, this intense one-evening festival gives a unique opportunity to view Bangladesh from the perspective of Bangladeshis. Whether documentary or fiction, these films simply narrate the stories of individual struggles that bring into relief the spirit of resilience and compassion that define the ethos of the teeming millions that inhabit the biggest delta in the world. The creative minds working behind the cameras here are all relatively young - filmmakers who grew up and embarked on their trade in the post-Independence Bangladesh. The Festival showcases productions from the last few years, some of them having earned laurels in international film circuits.
Bengali theater professor, critic and social issues in film debater Shafi Ahmed from Jahangir Nagar University will be on hand to discuss and answer audiences questions about the documentaries and the feature film at two times during the evening.
To add to the festivities, complementary Bengali finger food will be offered, and singer/keyboardist Mostafizur Rahman Shahin will be playing Bengali folk and pop songs before, after and between films.
